Reclaimed Oak Beams
Reclaimed oak beams are lengths of solid oak which have been removed from a building to be used again.
This idea is a method of recycling an old product to produce something which can be used again, to produce something new. These beams could have been removed from the likes of old houses, barns, and even some castles. With this variety in where the beams originate, it's easy to see how these beams can instantly bring a unique character into your home.
One of the main advantages of reclaimed oak beams is that they are incredibly stable. This ensures that there is very little movement making them suitable for a number of situations.
A further attraction is that as it ages, the oak matures to give a rich colour with wonderful patina.
Finally, the knots, cracks, bangs and scrapes add to the beams' character as we get to look into their previous lives.
The demand for reclaimed oak beams has only increased over the years, with more and more people looking to bring character into their homes.
Unfortunately this demand has led to an increase in some sellers trying to pass off newer wood as antique. Some are able to get away with this because it is very difficult to identify older materials unless the wood is cut open. This process can leave the material in a much less desirable state, so is rarely done.
Unlike most timber yards and reclamation sites, we do not supply our reclaimed beams in “as found” condition- often covered in paint, bitumen and any other rubbish that has been accumulated over the years.
Our beams come in a form that you can use straight away, meaning that they come ready sandblasted and treated for woodworm.
Although this process costs more time and money on our part, we believe that your beams should be ready for you to fit straight away, without you having to worry about woodworm or cleaning.
We have a huge range of sizes of reclaimed oak beams available, so if you are interested, give us a call on 01538 304584 and we can give you all the information you need.
