What Is Distressed Aged Oak Flooring?

11th Aug 2016

Regular visitors to our website will no doubt have noticed our most recent re-addition to the solid oak flooring range - the Distressed Aged Oak Flooring. This grade of oak flooring offers something very different to our standard grades. So what exactly is Distressed Aged Oak Flooring?

Distressed Aged Oak Flooring contains the same range of knots, cracks and shakes as our character grade oak flooring. Unlike the character, these boards have been made to appear “singed”, almost as though they have been recovered from a derelict, burn building. This creates a striking visual effect, ideally suited for the older, traditional properties.

Unfinished Distressed Solid Oak Flooring

Distressed Aged Oak Flooring boards are also brushed. This brushing process involves using a wire brush to add a texture to the surface of the boards - creating a distinct aged surface texture.

Whilst not to everyone's taste, the distressed and aged appeal of these boards in the correct environment can look truly striking. As with all of our unfinished oak flooring grades, these boards will only look better when finished. Hard Wax Oils, such as the Blanchon Hard Waxoil and the Osmo Polyx Oil, will add a warmth to the boards - as is seen in the image below.

Like all of our 20mm solid oak flooring, boards lengths are our usual long lengths - no shorter than 2 metres - and available in a number of different widths.
