Why Is Character Grade Oak Flooring So Popular?

Different grades suit different people. The choice of which grade is best for you will come down to your own preference, and what looks best in your environment. Despite this our character grade oak flooring remains by far our most popular seller, but why?

Character grade oak flooring boards feature a blend of knots, cracks, shakes, colour variation as well as areas of perfectly grained oak. This grade sits just above the barn grade, whilst offering more character than the select or prime grades. This means character grade flooring is very much seen as the "middle ground" of grades offering the "best of both worlds".

The grading of the character grade means that it is often the perfect floor for just about all environments. Whether it be an older family home, a barn conversion, or a more contemporary environment, the character grade will often suit perfectly.

Oak flooring gets better with age. This is none more true than with the character grade. Any marks or scratches often become part of the floor, and only add to the character of the boards.

Oak Flooring

As the character grade is a more commonly found grade of oak flooring, this is also reflected in the price. When compared to the select and prime grades, a character grade board will cost less.

When coated up with a high quality hard wax oil, such a the Blanchon Hard Waxoil, these boards can really come to life. As standard hard wax oils will leave the boards with a warm, golden colour. However there are also a number of colour stains available, which can look equally as great.
