What Underlay Should I Use With Oak Flooring?

25th Oct 2012 @ 13:43

Choosing an appropriate underlay for your oak flooring is a hugely important aspect that, if chosen correctly, will provide you with no problems further down the line. Ideally underlay needs to provide an effective sound and insulation barrier whilst also causing no problems to your flooring.

With all of this taken into account, the insulation we most recommend is the SilentWool: Floor Sheep Wool Insulation/Underlay. This completely natural 3mm thick sheep's wool acts as a cushion to the impact between the finished surface of wooden floors and the sub floor. The sheep's wool removes this contact between the two hard surfaces by creating an intermediate layer which effectively absorbs the vibrations.

Sheeps Wool Insulation

The natural sheep's wool provides a superior thermal performance, compared to the likes of mineral wool products. The rolls are made from pure new wool fibres, which hold their shape and thickness. The wool is also a fully breathable material that will maintain its thermal efficiency even through the harshest of climates. It is also designed to provide effective sound insulation.

As well as the acoustic and thermal benefits, the sheep's wool is the greenest choice of any insulation product on the market. It is from a renewable and sustainable source of raw material and is completely carbon neutral.
