Engineered Oak: The Solution To Your Flooring Problems?
Despite how durable and easy to work with traditional Solid Oak Flooring can be, it still remains not an appropriate option for some. One of the main reasons for this is solid oak's inability to cope with changes in humidity. If laid into areas of dampness, solid oak will more than likely begin to deform leaving you with problems such as cupping, warping, gaping or bending. Traditionally this would have meant that you were unable to enjoy the beauty and character that a oak flooring can bring to your home. However thanks to Engineered Oak Flooring, this feeling can be still be achieved in your home, even in areas of changeable humidity.
Unlike solid oak flooring, engineered oak flooring is made up of a combination of layers. Our boards have a top board of 6mm of solid oak, with the rest of the board made up of 15mm of Ply (11 layers). Each of these have been cross layered, glued and firmly pressed together. Like our solid oak boards, these boards also incorporate a tongue and groove system for easy fitting.
The structure of engineered oak flooring results in the boards being much less susceptible to changes in humidity and therefore the perfect solution to many oak flooring problems. This means that often engineered boards can be placed in areas where solid boards would traditionally encounter problems. An Engineered oak flooring can be a great addition to a kitchen, conservatory or even a bathroom. This tolerance to humidity also enables you, if required, to install an engineered oak flooring over the top of underfloor heating.
From above engineered boards look just as great as solid oak boards, ensuring that you will not be able to tell the difference once the floor has been laid. These boards can also similarly be fitted using the same methods as solid oak flooring such as nailing or glueing using an adhesive such as Rewmar MS Polymer.
