Oak Flooring Japanese Style

Oak flooring isn't all about period homes or über-chic loft apartments and hotels.

Oak Flooring Japanese Style

Sometimes, someone does things a little differently, like this home in Nabari City, Japan.

Designed by architects Matsunami Mitsutomo Architect & Associates, there's extensive use of oak for both flooring and for stairs - the bathroom even has an oak ceiling.

You'd have thought that having so much oak flooring and oak furniture would be overpowering, but this home proves that, with the right design, a low maintenance and clean space is easily possible.

Given the rural nature of the building's site and how close it sits to a traditional pagoda-style home, the house has a wonderfully natural feel to it, whilst remaining distinctly modern and Japanese.

I think it works a treat.
