Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra 420 is a oil based UV protection that has been designed for exterior use. With its clear or pigmented oak finish, the product is perfect for protecting all of your outside windows, doors and timber cladding.

By being based on natural oils, it keeps the wood elastic, healthy and able to breathe. This means that the wood is prevented from drying and therefore becoming brittle. Moisture is able to easily evaporate, ensuring that shrinking and swelling are reduced. This also ensures that the product does not crack, peel, flake or blister.

When the product is used as a final finish after staining wood, the renovation time is significantly increased. When two coats are used as a stand alone finish the greying process on vertical surfaces will be significantly increased, compared to wood which has not been treated.

The finish itself contains active ingredients which are designed to protect from the likes of mould, algae and fungi attack. In keeping with the principles of Osmo, the product only contains ingredients that are safe and environmentally friendly.

No sanding or priming is necessary before renewing, the oil can simply be applied over the top.

Technical Data Sheet (420)

Ingredients

Sunflower oil, soyabean oil, siccatives and additives, Disaromatized white spirit (benzene-free) complying with EU-regulation (2004/42/EC) according to the VOC limit value of max. 400 g/l (Kat. A/e (2010))

Application

Ensure that the wooden surface is completely clean, dry and frost free.

Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra comes ready to use so there is no need to thin it, just stir well.

It is recommended that the first coat is applied with a pigmented oil such as Natural Wood Stain, One Coat Only or Country Colour.

Apply the oil thinly and evenly along the grain of the wood with either a natural bristle brush or microfiber roller, making sure the oil is spread well.

When drying, the wood must be allowed good ventilation.

With a second coat, apply the same way as before. It is recommended that you complete a trial application before as the finish can be influenced by the wood’s natural characteristics.

Allow approximately 12 hours for the oil to dry, though this may increase in lower temperatures or higher humidity areas.

Maintenance

Depending on how much the wood has weathered, apply 1 coat of Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra after approximately 3-4 years on a cleaned and intact finish. Shorter renovation times may be needed in areas where extreme weathering has taken place such as where water cannot drain (decking, windowsills, furniture). In the event that the greying process has already begun, revive the surface with the Osmo Wood Reviver and re-apply 2 coats of Osmo UV Protection-Oil Extra.
