Maintaining Your Oak Floor

Once your beautiful solid or engineered oak floor has been successfully fitted, your going to want to keep it in the same top quality condition. Despite how hard-wearing and durable an oak floor is, there are a few simple steps you can take to increase its life span even further.

If you have fitted an unfinished board, you can help to protect it by applying one of the many hardwax oils available, such as the Fiddes Hard Wax Oil or the Blanchon Hard Waxoil. We recently did a test on a number of Hardwax Oils to establish which is best, which can be seen by clicking here. All of these oils are designed to give your flooring added durability and resistance against the wear and tear of everyday life.

A simple regular sweep or vacuum can help to keep any dust or grit off the surface. Grit could potentially scratch the surface of the boards, so it is important to remove it when spotted. If you have any furniture with sharp legs, felt pads can be a worthwhile investment.

Damp mopping the boards will help to keep your boards looking as good as new. For boards that have been finished with an hardwax oil, there are a number of wash and care products available, including the Osmo Wash and Care. These products act as an added cleaning agent as well as making the floor surface even more resistant against soiling and wear.
