Prime Grade Oak Flooring

Prime grade solid oak floor boards are the closest you can get to the perfection of quarter-sawn boards - but at a third of the price.
Taken from the centre of the trunk, only a small number of prime grade oak boards can be produced from each tree.
These boards are uniform in colour and are free from the knots, shakes and burrs of the other grades. They often display the wonderful "hearting" found in quarter-sawn timber and are ideally suited to modern and contemporary spaces where the floor must look beautiful without distracting the eye.
In our opinion, a prime grade oak floor, with it's individual boards, provides a certain "something" that engineered oak flooring can never match - and it looks better as it ages!
For a sleek, minimalist look, prime grade solid oak flooring offers premium quality and outstanding value for money.
Where you need maximum character, for example in a Tudor cottage, rural camping barn or Irish theme pub, barn grade flooring is ideal. In fact, the more traffic and wear it gets, the better it looks.
Barn grade oak floors often appear darker than character grade and prime grade oak floors, simply because they have more knots and burrs. It's worth bearing in mind that when waxed with Osmo Polyx Oil, the oak will become even warmer in tone and may not need staining to achieve an aged look. We always recommend that you try stains and waxes on an off-cut first.
In terms of durability, there is no difference between any of the unfinished, solid oak flooring grades we supply. Your decision on which grade to use should be made purely on which grade best suits your setting.
