Following on from their success as joint winners in our very own floor finishes test, we have decided to bring in the Fiddes Hard Wax Oil to show you that there is other, and often better options, when choosing the right hard wax oil for you.
In business for nearly 100 years, Fiddes began with the founder’s own passion for caring for wood.
Operating from their base in Cardiff, Wales, Fiddes are continually striving for the development of safer, more environmentally friendly wood finishes. This is none more present than in their Hard Wax Oil range.
The blend of natural oils and waxes are designed to offer exceptional durability and resistance for all internal natural wood flooring, wooden kitchen worktops and areas which receive a high level of wear.
With a fast drying time, the Fiddes Hard Wax Oil is available in either a Satin or Matt finish.
The finish is also water repellent and will not peel or flake.
Coverage
A single application will cover approximately 20-24 square meters per litre, though this does depend on the density of the substrate.

Preparation
Ensure that the surface is clean, dry and free from any previous finish.
If needed, sand the substrate with a fine 150 grade sanding paper or 150 grit sanding disk, removing all traces of dust.
Application
Ensure the area is well ventilated during and after application.
It is recommended that a small area is tested prior to the initial application.
No primer is required.
Maximum 2 coats recommended.
Apply the oil at room temperature.
Apply directly, thinning is not required.
First CoatStir the contents thoroughly before and during use, applying in a warm, well ventilated room.
Apply Fiddes Hard Wax Oil thinly and evenly, using a good quality bristle or synthetic brush, following the direction of the grain.
Any surplus should be removed immediately with a cloth, being careful to check all areas for any excess application.
Leave to dry for at least 4-6 hours in warm, dry and well ventilated conditions, or preferably leave overnight.
Second CoatApply in the same way as the first coat, allowing good ventilation. Leave to dry for at least 4-6 hours in warm, dry, and well ventilated conditions, or preferably leave overnight.
