Character Grade Oak Flooring

By far and away our most popular solid oak flooring, character grade boards feature occasional knots of varying size, colour variations and perhaps the odd hairline shake.
This is the perfect floor for almost all renovation projects, barn conversions and older family homes where you would like some character but still need a more uniform look than barn grade oak provides.
Character grade oak boards also look great in more modern homes where they provide a durable, eco-friendly, warm floor in any room.
Our competitive pricing and the durability of solid, character grade oak represents excellent value for money when compared to say, laminate flooring and will only look better with age.
As with all our solid oak flooring, these character grade boards are unfinished and respond beautifully to treatment with Osmo Polyx-Oil.
Where you need maximum character, for example in a Tudor cottage, rural camping barn or Irish theme pub, barn grade flooring is ideal. In fact, the more traffic and wear it gets, the better it looks.
Barn grade oak floors often appear darker than character grade and select grade oak floors, simply because they have more knots and burrs. It's worth bearing in mind that when waxed with Osmo Polyx Oil, the oak will become even warmer in tone and may not need staining to achieve an aged look. We always recommend that you try stains and waxes on an off-cut first.
In terms of durability, there is no difference between any of the unfinished, solid oak flooring grades we supply. Your decision on which grade to use should be made purely on which grade best suits your setting.

Additional Information
We have stopped sending out samples of character oak flooring as they are just not representative of a character grade floor. One six inch sample could look like a piece of barn grade oak and another look like select grade, with no knots, shakes or character at all!
We haven't displayed delivery costs as our couriers change them so frequently. We will advise you of delivery costs to your location when you contact us and of course, you are more than welcome to pick up your flooring should you wish to.
